Since nationwide protests broke out last week in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police, the “Big Three” major record labels — Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music — have all unveiled initiatives designed to address systemic racial injustice.

George Floyd, a black American, had died on May 25, after being pinned down by the neck for nearly nine minutes by Derek Chauvin, a Minnesota police officer, in a bid to effect his arrest.

Sony’s donation comes after Michael Jordan, a NBA legend, announced that he would be giving $100 million to brands dedicated to promoting racial equality and social justice.

It also comes after Kanye West had set up a college fund for George Floyd‘s daughter while also donating $2 million to charities associated with Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.
