The YouTube “Artist Spotlight Story” focused on Burna Boy’s rise to international success is worth its full 18 minutes runtime.
Produced by YouTube music, the documentary reflects on Burna’s inspiration as a songwriter, from his days borrowing beats off video games to cooking up groovy afrobeat anthems. The film also revisits his sojourn from being brought up as a Nigerian to roosting in Brixton, UK.
In the video, Burna Boy’s mother and manager, Bose Ogulu shares some of his growing up stories but most importantly, while parts of the film celebrates his energy as a performer, it tells the story of the rise of Afrobeat internationally and the role of YouTube in its promotion through the eyes of Burna Boy.
The documentary was directed by Maceo Frost and recently launched at an exclusive watch party.
