NIGERIAN dancehall singer, Yemi Alade has mocked Access Bank for planning to retrench 75% of its workforce.

The singer’s mockery came on the heels of a video that has since gone viral, where the Managing Director of the financial institution, Herbert Wigwe revealed the bank’s plan to sack a large number of the bank’s staff members.

It is on record that amongst the many organisations that made donations for the fight against the infectious disease, was Access Bank, with a whooping sum N1 billion.

Reacting to the retrenchment plan, Alade slammed Access Bank, saying the plan to retrench is unreasonable, owing to the fact that it recently donated N1 billion to the Federal Government in its fight to combat the novel coronavirus.

She, however, advised the bank to channel its strength on the most important assets. Her tweet read; “Your bank donated 1billion to the govt and now you are slashing down workers Salary, plus laying off staff ??.I am sorry but you cannot give, what you do not have. Focus on the most important asset “YOUR STAFF”. Instead of local for HYPE.”

For the past few hours, Access Bank has since been facing backlash from other Nigerians aside from the singer. Many people are taking to social media to express themselves over the mass sacking decision, which is still in the works.

While many people think it wasn’t a smart move for the company, some persons expressed that it should be a welcome decision for a profit-making company to downsize at this torrid period, as the pandemic continues to impact the economy.
