Vocal powerhouse Yemi Alade is back with the official music video for her song with the Mzansi Youth Choir, Rain. The song comes off her acclaimed sixth studio album, Empress.
Directed by Ovie Etseyatse, the video for Rain is filled with colour and scenery that keeps you glued to your screen. The director also shot the video for the hit single, Shekere, by Yemi Alade and legend Angelique Kidjo.
This, however, comes as Yemi Alade’s song, Dancina, is still popping on the lips of many.
Rain is an afro-pop ballad that Yemi Alade sings in English, punctuated by tribal lyrics. It features powerful background vocals from the South Africa-based Mzansi Youth Choir. The song delivers a message of hope, declaring that we are one people under the sun. It speaks proverbially that the sun will always shine after the rain.
She sings:
“I know it’s hard sometimes.
But you keep me moving.
No time to look around.
You better keep it moving.”
A beautiful mix with her towering vocals and also that of the Mzansi Youth Choir, Rain births a musical spectacle worth listening to. Its message also promises the African continent a future of greatness and liberation.
