Canada-based Nigerian writer, Yejide Kilanko is on the shortlist of the 2019 Guernica Prize for Literary Fiction for her book, “Moldable Women.”
The Guernica Prize for Literary Fiction debuted in 2018, is Canada’s newest prize that recognizes cutting edge fiction of at least 40,000 words. The winning author goes home with the prize of $1,000 and a contract with Guernica Editions. The prize is however open to Canadian citizens and residents only.
A longlist of ten was announced earlier in July this year. The just announced shortlist consist of five writers. The Ibadan born writer who is also a therapist, was longlisted for the 2013 Etisalat Prize for Literature for her book, “Daughters who walk this Path.” She lives in Chatham, Ontario where she continues to write poems, short stories, and novels.
The shortlist as announced by Guernica Editions are;
• A Twitch In the Bones by Renee M Sgroi.
• At Half-Light by Linda Walsh.
• Moldable Women by Yejide Kilanko.
• This Cleaving and This Burning by Andrew Wainwright.
• Zulaikha by Lily Soltani.
