Ycee Explains The Inspiration Behind New Album, “Ycee Vs. Zaheer”

For rapper cum singer, Ycee, 2019 has been a somewhat low-key. Although he has not been completely quiet, he hasn’t been all up in the media since he left Tinny Entertainment earlier on in the year. But he has given us some fantastic collaborations, the most recent being his feature on Zamir’s “Anti”.
Since his breakout onto the industry he hasn’t released a solo album. He has a joint album with Bella Alubo, released sometime in 2018, but nothing of his own until now.

The rapper has been teasing “YCee vs. Zaheer” for over a year, saying that the project is in its “concluding” stages. He has now released concrete news of its imminent arrival.

Sometime in 2018, he had teased that the album would feature some A-listers like; Wizkid, Phyno, Davido, but cutting down the tape from 19 songs to just 15, it’s not certain if the tracks featuring the big guys will make the cut.

The former Tinny Entertainment fore-runner says he isn’t worried about the quality of his music; he’s only worried about how the album will be distributed and marketed now that he’s independent. He promises to unleash every single version of himself on the tape, with the hopes that his fans will find at least one aspect of the project relatable and be inspired by the different elements in the album.

Along with the track list changes, the album has also been given a different name. It was previously called “Ain’t Nobody Badder Than“, which YCee has now changed to “YCee vs Zaheer“, because “I’m the only one worthy enough to compete with myself“.

Speaking about the significance of this new name, YCee shared; “The number one goal of this album is to showcase the versatility in the entire YCee brand and not just the versatility in the music. With this album we want to establish both sides of the same person in a way that the audience gets to appreciate the two sides as one, and hopefully lay the ‘is YCee a rapper or singer’ conversation to rest. I’m honestly tired of it, I rap and I sing and I’m too dope at both to let you box me in.

With a track record of massive hits like “Juice“, “Omo Alhaji” and “Jagaban” to his name, “YCee vs. Zaheer” will possibly be one of the most exciting debut albums of 2019, considering the fact that there aren’t enough visible mainstream rap albums.
With no official release date yet, fans can vibe to “Balance” while we wait;
