Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ is the most searched song on a US entertainment app, Shazam.
Shazam, taking to its Instagram page on Monday, congratulated Wizkid after his song ‘Essence’ became the most ‘Shazamed’ song in the US.
It wrote “Big congrats to Wizkid! Essence is now the most shazamed song in the United States.”
Released on 30 October 2020, ‘Essence‘ is the 11th track from his fourth studio album, Made in Lagos. It features Nigerian singer Tems, who wrote the song alongside Wizkid. Produced by P2J and Legendury Beatz, the song sees the duo express their desire for each other.
The music video was released on 9 April 2021, shot in Accra, Ghana. Also, “Essence” is the first Nigerian song in history to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200.
Wizkid started recording music at the age of 11. He released a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group he and a couple of his church friends formed.
He signed a deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) in 2009 and rose to prominence after ‘Holla at Your Boy’. In 2016, he also got global recognition for ‘One Dance’, his collaboration with Drake, another Canadian singer.
Wizkid won his first-ever Grammy last March for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl’, a song by Beyonce.
