Wizkid’s song, ‘Essence’, featuring Tems becomes first Nigerian song to feature in Billboards Hot 100 chart.
In a tweet by Billboard on Monday, ‘Essence’ debuted at no 82 on its Hot 100 chart.
‘Essence’ is the eleventh song on WizKid’s fourth studio album Made In Lagos which was released on October 30. It made it to the top list of former U.S president, Barrack Obama‘s favourite songs of 2020.
The album features music heavy weights including Burna Boy, Skepta, Damian Marley, H.E.R., Ella Mai and Terr.
With this, Wizkid is the first Nigerian hitmaker to score a Billboard Hot 100 entry.
The song is Wizkid’s third feature on the charts, after ‘One Dance’ famously hit No. 1 in 2016. His second was for ‘Brown Skin Girl’ which peaked at No. 76 in 2020. For Tems, this marks her first appearance as her launch gathers heat.
