Nigerian musician, Ayo Balogun, popularly know as Wizkid, joined Canadian superstar, Justin Bieber on stage during the Made in America music festival to perform his hit song, Essence.
Essence is a track on Wizkid’s Made In Lagos album, which was released in October. Since it’s release, it has become a fan favourite for both Nigerians and people all over the world.
Beiber featured on the song’s remix which originally featured Nigerian Alte singer, Tems. He even went as far as calling it the “song of the summer”.
The duo performed the song on stage together for the first time in Philadelphia.
Essence has been breaking records and topping charts, especially on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In July, Wizkid became the first Nigerian artist to have a record on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when Essence broke into the chart at No. 82. Days later, it rose to No.70 and later to No.67 the next.
In August, the song became one of the top 20 songs of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and also became the most Shazamed song in the United States for the week.
Many have also credited Tems’ feature on Drake’s recently released album, Certified lover boy, to her feature in Essence.
