Wizkid Becomes First Nigerian Singer To Win NAACP Image Award

Multi-award winning Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun also known as Wizkid has become the first Nigerian singer to win NAACP image awards, after his collaboration with American singer, Beyonce‘s Brown Skin Girl won an award at the 2020 edition of the popular Image awards.

The singer, along with the grammy-award winning singer, picked up the award for the outstanding duo, group of collaboration at the 2020 edition of the Image Awards.

Wizkid went head-to-head with other prominent singers such as Drake and Alicia Keys among others.

The NAACP image award is an annual awards ceremony. It is presented by the U.S based National Association; for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP). The image awards to honours outstanding performances in film, television, music, and literature.

Wizkid announces release date for his ”Made In Lagos” album

In the early hours of Tuesday, August 7, Wizkid announced the release date for his new project, Made in Lagos.

“01.10.18”  the 28-year-old pop star tweeted. Then he followed it up with another tweet of the album title, ”#MadeinLagos.”

Made in Lagos will be the singer’s fourth body of work after his EP, Sounds From The Other Side. The EP was released in 2017. Wizkid‘s album journey began with a debut album, Super Star in 2011 and he followed up with Ayo in 2014 .

Wizkid’s Sound From The Other Side was a potent crossover album that blends pop, R&B, dancehall and features Drake, Trey Songz, Ty Dolla $ign and more.

Released and distributed under RCA Records/Sony Music International, SFTOS sold 6,286 units in its first week- 2,672 pure album purchase, 6,079 song downloads, 4,510,897 song streams.

The album was about Wizkid’s globalist, genre-hopping vision. However with Made In Lagos, the singer, after experiencing some cross over success is regaining hold of his home scene.

With Afrobeats now emerging far bigger on the American music radar, Wizkid is primed to carry Afrobeats to great heights.

Wizkid returned home and has released a number of banging singles and collaborations including Manya, Nowo with DJ Spinall, the Star boy collaboration Soco, Kana with Olamide and Fake Love with Duncan Mighty, that have all been well received and become chart toppers.

Made in Lagos, the ten track EP, is now scheduled to be released on October 1 and fans can’t wait already.
