Jada Pinkett Smith has said that the now-famous Oscars slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock saved her marriage.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Jada stated that the incident was a watershed moment in her life that made her realise she would never leave Will.
She referred to the incident’s aftermath as the “holy slap,” emphasising that positive outcomes followed the contentious moment.
“That moment of sh!t hitting the fan is when you see where you really are,” Jada said, looking back on the incident. After all those years of pondering whether or not I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap to realise I would never leave him. Who knows where our relationship would be if that had not occurred.”
Jada went on to discuss the positive developments that occurred as a result of the incident and expressed her gratitude for attending the ceremony despite nearly missing it. Her remarks come after a recent interview in which she stated her desire to be with Will “forever.”
Will’s surprise appearance at her book tour in October, where he acknowledged the difficulties in their relationship, describing it as “brutiful” — both brutal and beautiful — echoes this sentiment.
The couple has been open about their long and tumultuous relationship’s ups and downs.
