Nollywood actor, Lateef Adedimeji has revealed why his role in filmmaker Tunde Kelani‘s forthcoming biopic of Àpàlà musician, Ayinla Yusuf, is difficult.
In an interview on Channels TV‘s Nollywood Uncut, Adedimeji said there was no video documentation of the legendary musician, which he explained gave him difficulty in playing the role.
His words: “Ayinla Omowura was a very popular person … so my role in the movie is basically bringing all of his mannerisms and ways of life into me and deliver it.
“It’s not been easy at all, we’ve been trying to make sure we get it right. There is no documentation such as videos and all, which has made it difficult to get a grasp of what one can do.
“So, basically interpreting and getting his character is based on what one has heard about him. You know, what people that are close to him have said about him. After hearing all that people said, I now have to build the character on my own from what I’ve heard people say about him.
“Because really, I didn’t meet him, and there are no videos of him on how he behaved but words from people and books could tell, it is then that I can put what I heard all together and soak myself in the character.”
In the movie, Adedimeji will be playing the role of the music legend and will be starring alongside Omowunmi Dada, Bimbo Manuel, Ade Laoye, Kunle Afolayan, amongst others.
