Popular singer, Joseph Akinfenwa-Donus otherwise known as Joeboy, has revealed that his debut album, Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic, suffered setback.

In an interview with Boom Buzz, the music star said the body of work has been ready since February last year (2020), adding that COVID-19 and the #EndSARS protest was responsible for the delay.

“The album was ready since February last year, but COVID-19 happened, and then I moved it to October, but #EndSARS happened and it just did not feel like the best time for anything to happen,” he stated.

Explaining his creative process, Joeboy said it is tricky “because songs mean different things to different people. So what may be interesting to you may not be interesting to me. So, I go with intuition most times. But picking songs on this album was difficult because I rearranged and changed a lot of things…”

Speaking on the title of his new album, he revealed that the title was inspired by his sound engineer. His words: “Big shout out to my engineer, oxygen mix who named my first album, love and light. Coincidentally, he named this album Somewhere between Beauty and Magic as well.”

Joeboy’s 14-track album features productions from renowned producers, including E Kelly, Killertunes, and Semzy.

The body of work which would not feature any artistes aside from Joeboy, was mixed by Oxygen Mix and mastered by E Kelly, Oxygen Mix, and Air.

“Being able to create records that are life changing is one of the greatest gifts to humanity; I’ve lived in the music to a point where I found myself immersed in all of it’s rhythms. I present to you my Debut album Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic” #SBBM it’s beautiful, it’s certainly amazing,” he wrote.

Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic follows his 2019 EP –Love and Light.

Joeboy, a product of Mr Eazi’s #emPawa100 talent incubator, last year, collaborated Jamaican-American electronic dance music trio, Major Lazer for the Sun Comes Up monster hit, Mr Eazi and DJ Neptune for Nobody, amongst others.
