Why I Wrote Duduke- Simi

Nigerian singer, Simisola Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi, has opened up on the inspiration behind her hit track Duduke, a song that was dedicated to her unborn baby.

Although the Duduke crooner revealed that she had second thoughts on singing about her personal experience, she admitted that the music project was came from her personal experience and is special to her.

Simi, 32, welcomed her daughter, Adejare few months back with her singer husband, Adekunle Gold.

“I’ve debated with myself for months on whether or not I should document my personal experience as a working, pregnant woman,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I still haven’t decided, because I’m still trying to navigate my current chemistry with social media.

“I’ll say this though, making this song was special for me, because it was personal. But I honestly had no idea it would be as huge as it is. I didn’t know it would resonate with so many people.”

 

With lines such as “I cannot wait to see you, you are the treasure I have been waiting for… I am waiting for the day I finally get to kiss you,” the #Duduke challenge quickly went viral; and became the internet’s sensation with pregnant women miming and dancing to the song.

Released under her own record label, Studio Brat, Duduke is Simi’s first official single in 2020. The music video which was released on April 19 coincided with the singer’s 32nd birthday.

In the visuals, Simi can be seen playing piano in front of the beach shoreline; while caressing her protruded belly in a silky flowing yellow gown.
