Nearly four years after she filed for divorce, Angelina Jolie, an American actress, is opening up on why she chose to split from Brad Pitt.
In an interview with Vogue, the 45-year-old actress said her divorce from Pitt, was for the well-being of her family. She added that she took the right decision especially in the interest of her “six very brave” children.
“I separated for the well-being of my family. It was the right decision. I continue to focus on their healing,” she said on Friday.
“Some have taken advantage of my silence, and the children see lies about themselves in the media, but I remind them that they know their own truth and their own minds.”
The Maleficent: Mistress of Evil star also recounted her initial fears about adopting her eldest sons — Maddox and Pax — due to what she referred to as their “complex history”.

Angelina Jolie, however, expressed her joy for eventually adopting the children who are from Cambodia and Vietnam — two nations known for their frosty relationships in the past.
“I thought of my own country and our involvement in Southeast Asia. I thought of focusing on a future where we were all family.
She continued: “I am very blessed to have been allowed to be their mum. I am grateful every day.”
The 45-year-old movie star also narrated the sweet-bitter experience that comes with grooming children from biological and adoptive backgrounds.
“All adopted children come with a beautiful mystery of a world that is meeting yours,” she said.
They former lovebirds had tied the knot in 2014 at a decorated ceremony in France after they first met in 2005.
In September 2016, about two years after their marriage, the actress had filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple had six children together – three biological children and three adopted — before their divorce.
