Cameron Diaz has broken her silence on her decision to quit acting.
The Charlie’s Angels star, considered by many to be one of the best actresses in her generation, sent shockwaves through Hollywood when she she left the film industry in 2014.
Now, she has opened up on why she retired from acting, saying that it was the best move for her because she didn’t have time for her personal life and that she found “peace”.
While speaking with Gwyneth Paltrow, on the latest episode of In Goop Health, Diaz said: “I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life. I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films and it’s such a grind. When you’re making a movie—it’s a perfect excuse—they own you. You’re there for 12 hours a day for months on end and you have no time for anything else.”
She continued: “It’s so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there. There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there,”
Diaz added that when she turned 40, she needed to leave acting in order to become “self-sufficient again.”
When asked what it felt like to “walk away from a movie career of that magnitude.”
she replied: “A peace. I got a peace in my soul, because I finally was taking care of myself.”
Since leaving the spotlight in 2014, Cameron Diaz, 47, has been focused on her family. In 2015, she tied the knot with musician, Benji Madden. They welcomed their daughter, Raddix Madden in January.
