Afro-beat singer, Seun Kuti has revealed that he’s not an advocate of youth governance because the youths have not acquired much to offer.

In an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show monitored by eelive.ng, Kuti said he was yet to see a nation that was built by the youths, adding that the youth governance is not the solution to Nigeria’s problems.

He said, “I am not one that believe in the idea of youth governance. I have not seen a nation that was built by the youths; I think this whole youth must rule Nigeria was an idea of the elders of the society.”

“The youths don’t really have much; they don’t have jobs, they don’t have money but you want them to build the nation, how?” Kuti queried.

He continued: “It is those that have the means that should do the job, but they don’t want to do it, and instead of saying the truth, they are deflecting. The youths are the reflection of your society, not the solution. So, if you want to know how your society is working, you look at the state of youths, they give you the exact situation report of the society.

“Youth also is not an ideology, people will grow up and stop being young, any idea that will liberate this country must be all-inclusive. It must include young people, old, rich, poor, women, and children. Youth just a demographic. Nigeria needs the youth for the energy they can bring to the movement, the energy they can bring to nation-building.

“Youths are important, many of our politicians entered politics young, Dimeji Bankole, Rotimi Amechi, Wike, Buhari has been in power for a long time.

“Youth is not the solution to the issue. What we need is people with dignity, self-respect, integrity, and hearts that beat for their own people and not this set of people that don’t care about anything.”
