Popular global streaming platform Netflix surprised its Nigerian subscribers with a Nollywood classic, Osuofia in London. Divided into two parts, the hit film is now available to stream on the platform.
The Nollywood comedy follows the story of the title character who leaves Nigeria for London. This, however, comes after the demise of his estranged brother, Donatus, who leaves him as the sole inheritor to his will.
When Osuofia arrives in England, he meets his brother’s British fiancée, Samantha. He then tries to convince her to follow the Nigerian custom of becoming part of the “inheritance” herself. The cultural misunderstandings result in a comedy of errors.
Netflix was happy to share the news via its Instagram page, teasing a short clip from Osuofia in London. In the clip, Osuofia received the news of his brother’s death in his village home. Then, after a series of theatrics from him and his daughters, including a little fainting and crying, he proceeded to mourn his “beloved” brother.
Directed by Kingsley Ogoro and also produced by Kola Munis, Osuofia in London launched in 2003 and became a well-loved classic to Nigerians. The film stars Nollywood veteran Nkem Owoh as Osuofia, Mara Derwent, Sebastian Hall, Mara Ashton, Charles Angiama and more.
