Nollywood filmmaker, Tunde Kelani has revealed that he seeks to tell the story of Àpàlà music icon, Ayinla Yusuf popularly known as Ayinla Omowura with his new movie.
The movie which would be starring Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Afolayan, Omowunmi Dada, amongst others, according to Kelani, would be focused on Omowura’s music and personality.
“This production is based on Ayinla Omowura’s music and personality,” he stated on Channels TV‘s Nollywood Uncut.
On why Abeokuta, the state capital of Ogun State, is the shooting destination of the movie, Kelani explained that Omowura got all his musical ideas and essence from there.
“I grew up hearing Ayinla Omowura, and you know Abeokuta produce many names… I’m sure you’ve heard of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti whom I knew very well and followed. And then, there is Ebenezer Obey, who’s conservative.
“Fela was like an elite, unlike Ayinla Omowura who came from a very poor background. He had to fend for himself and he had a talent that is very hard to replicate. I doubt if Ayinla Omowura could have come from any other part of the world, except Abeokuta,” Kelani added.
