All of Nigeria went berserk when Wizkid and Burna Boy both won Grammy awards. The award show aired on March 15, and there were quite some surprises on the show.

Wizkid won the award for the ‘Best Music Video’ category alongside SAINt JHN, Beyonce, and Blue Ivy, while Burna Boy won the ‘Best Global Music Award’ category.

These two Grammy wins will be paving the way for the Nigerian music industry, and here are some of them.

1. International recognition

The Grammy Awards is one of the world’s biggest hosting platforms, and the fact that two Afrobeats Nigerian artists both won important awards in the same night is for sure a big deal. There is more attention on Afrobeats and, hopefully, more international collaborations too. It’s fantastic how Afrobeats has grown in the past decade, and it is incredible to see how relentless Nigerians have pursued their passions.

2. New point of focus

There’s no need to lie to ourselves that the Nigerian music industry doesn’t generate revenue. There are countless opportunities to succeed in this area, and we can only hope the government makes excellent use of this Grammy win.

3. Encouragement for young people

If people weren’t interested in music before, they are now. We all witnessed firsthand how pleasing it was to see our superstars win awards in their various categories. This will push more people to pursue their careers in music.

4. Bragging rights

Two superstars from Nigeria got Grammy nominations and they won? It’s not easy. There is no doubt that Nigeria is the African Giant when it comes to the entertainment industry, and we are here for it!
