Watch Will Smith as Venus and Serena Williams’ father in ‘King Richard’ trailer

Will Smith, award winning actor, rapper and movie producer will be playing Richard Williams in an upcoming movie, titled King Richard.

Richard Williams is the father of global tennis superstar sisters, Venus and Serena Williams. Warner Bros just released ha hi the first trailer for King Richard. The film tells the story of how the Williams sisters became who they are now after their father’s coaching.

Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton play the role of Venus and Serena Williams respectively. Lovecraft Country’s Aunjanue Ellis also stars as the mother of the tennis superstars, as Brandy Williams.

We watch Richard plan for the girls’ future, moving them from the streets of Compton to the global stage.

“I wrote me a 78-page plan for their whole career before they were even born”, Smith says in the trailer.

The film shows the power of family, perseverance and unwavering belief as a means to achieve the impossible and impact the world.

This Oscar-chasing biopic will hit theaters on November 19 and HBO Max. King Richard is directed by Monsters and Men director, Reinaldo Marcus Green and also written by Zach Baylin.

From the film’s Synopsis

King Richard highlights one father’s relentless drive and unapologetic vision to change the game. Determined to do things his way, Richard Williams made a plan and defied the odds by raising not one, but two of the greatest athletes of all time. Venus and Serena Williams (also executive produced the film alongside their sister Isha Price).

This isn’t the first time Will Smith has taken the role of a real life figure. He has two Oscar nominations for his portrayal of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali in 2001’s Ali and also his role as Chris Gardner, a struggling salesman who becomes homeless with his young son in 2006’s The Pursuit of Happyness.
