The first photo of Nigerian-American actress, Uzo Aduba, has been released as shooting for upcoming FX series, “Mrs. America”, begins. Earlier on in the year, eelive.ng had announced that the actress will be playing the iconic Shirley Chisholm.
“Mrs. America” is set in the ’70s and will tell the history-making story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly (played by Oscar-winning actress, Cate Blanchett).
Shirley Chisholm made history as America’s first black congresswoman, as well as the first black woman to run for president. She is one of the many female icons that the series, based on the fight for passage of the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment), will focus on.
Helmed by Captain Marvel’s Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the nine-part limited series will also star Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids), Margo Martindale (The Americans), Tracey Ullman (Into The Woods), Elizabeth Banks (Hunger Games) and John Slattery (Mad Men).
Uzo Aduba is known for her Emmy-winning work on “Orange Is The New Black”. “Mrs. America” is filming and will reportedly air in 2020.
