Tunde Kelani drops teaser trailer for ‘Ayinla’

A teaser trailer for the Ayinla Omowura biopic directed by Legendary filmmaker, Tunde Kelani has now been released.

Directed by Kelani and co-produced by Jade Osiberu’s Greoh Studios, the film will properly detail the life and times of the late Àpàlà musician, Ayinla Yusuf, popularly known as Ayinla Omowura.

Ayinla was a rising superstar before his death on May 6, 1980 in his hometown of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He was stabbed in the head with a glass during a beer parlor brawl and died from the incident. He was 47.

The film, shot in the city of Abeokuta is set in the 1970s and early 1980s.

The teaser trailer shows Adedimeji Lateef as the legendary Ayinla, alongside Kunle Afolayan, Omawunmi Dada, Debo Macaroni. The film also stars Bimbo Manuel, Bimbo Ademoye and Ade Laoye.

The film will debut in cinemas on June 18, 2021.

According to the director, the film answers questions like “Who is Ayinla Omowura? Why is his music still relevant after his tragic death forty years ago?

About Ayinla Omowura

Ayinla was born in 1933 and got into music in the 1950s with a brand of music called ‘Olalomi’. This brand of music was so popular in South West Nigeria that he built up a cult following. He was an idol to the masses, traders, and even the market women.

His first album titled ‘HNLX 50′ dropped on July 20, 1971, and was a commercial success having sold over 50,000 copies.

All 20 of his albums released under the EMI Nigeria imprint, sold a minimum of 50,000 copies on the first day of release.
