Trailer For Chinonye Chukwu’s Movie, “Clemency'” Is Finally Here (Watch)

Nigerian-American Filmmaker, Chinonye Chukwu has been enjoying the buzz around her latest effort, “Clemency”, as it has gone on to shine long before its official release. It recorded a delightful premiere at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in February 2019 and has now most recently begun to gather some Oscar buzz.

The movie has been a critical darling for most of the year and finally the trailer for the rousing drama has been released, giving a sneak peek into the Oscar hopeful. 

Written and directed by recent Oscar voter, Chinonye Chukwu, “Clemency” is a hard-hitting drama that follows a prison warden, Bernadine Williams (Alfre Woodard) who develops an emotional connection to a death row inmate (Aldis Hodge) she is scheduled to execute. 

With Alfre Woodard’s performance being praised in particular; her depiction of the psychological turmoil and the toll the impending execution has taken on her personal life. The trailer describes her inner struggles with Anthony Woods’ hope, as he grows confident that he will be exonerated before the execution date. 

The movie has gathered some Oscar buzz, earning Chinonye Chukwu the honour of becoming the first black woman to win Sundance’s highest honour, the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize.

Distribution giants, Neon have promised that the public will be able to see the movie before the year runs out, with a theatre release date set for December 27.
