Toyin Abraham’s latest movie ‘Malaika’ set to hit UK cinemas

Malaika by Toyin Abraham is making its way to the international market.

The film, which has grossed over 104.3 million in Nigeria, will be released in the United Kingdom on Friday.

The filmmaker and actress revealed on Instagram yesterday that the film will be released in the United Kingdom on January 5, 2023.

The International Film Exhibition Consultancy (IFEC) will oversee international distribution. This will begin at Odeon Cinemas. The schedule and locations are expected to be announced later this week.

It follows in the footsteps of Funke Akindele’s A Tribe Called Judah, which had a brief release in the United Kingdom in December 2023.

Malaika has grossed over 104.3 million in Nigerian cinemas. This is according to the most recent record released by Film One Entertainment on December 30, 2023. It’s also one of the top five highest-grossing Nollywood films for 2023.

The feature story takes the audience on an emotional journey into the lengths a woman will go to find the answers she seeks.

A married couple, played by Abraham and Emeka Ike, are confronted with fertility issues that drive them apart. After several years of trying, the wife expresses her frustration and desire for answers to the situation at hand.

Other cast members in the production, include Ibrahim Chatta, Uzor Arukwe, Odunlade Adekola, Pelumi Olawuni, Taiwo Lyncett, Adesege Adeniji, and Ugandan entertainer Anne Kansiime. Malaika is directed by Steve Sodiya.

Malaika, which is still playing in theatres across the country, continues to pique the interest of the Nigerian audience. It is also currently on display in Ghana.
