Father’s Day has traditionally, and understandably, always been considered a day to celebrate the million dads around the world. However, some female celebrities like Tonto Dike have been forced to take up the mantle due to different circumstances.
On Sunday, single celebrity moms in Nigeria joined millions of fathers around the world to celebrate themselves on father’s day, simultaneously, pouring encomium on themselves for balancing the traditional “mom” role of nurturing and caring with work.
In posts on their respective Instagram pages, the celebrities spoke about their father-roles in the life of their children.
Here’s how a number of them marked Father’s Day.
Tonto Dike
Nollywood actress, Tonto Dike who got married in 2015 parted ways with Olakunle Churchill, in June 2017. Since the couple parted ways Dike has assumed the role of both mother and father to their son. The actress is obviously enjoying “fatherhood” as she is always seen gushing over her son. The single mom says it’s a great honour being “Mr Mom.”
Mercy Aigbe
Actress, Mercy Aigbe hijacked father’s day from her estranged husband, Lanre Gentry in 2017; after citing domestic violence as a reason for their split.
Aigbe couldn’t resist throwing some jabs at her ex-husband as she also celebrated the “responsible fathers” out there on father’s day. “May we eat the fruits of our labour,” she added.
Iyabo Ojo
Famous quintessential single mom, Iyabo Ojo penned a very emotional message encouraging all single great mum or dad on Father’s day.
Taking to her social media page to celebrate Father’s Day, same day as her son’s 21st birthday; the actress urged single parents to not give up on their kids.
The mother of two stated that the journey as a single parent is indeed hard but that tough times do not last. She also advised them to stay strong because the effort is always rewarding as time goes on.
Yvonne Jegede
Yvonne Jegede took to her Instagram page to wish all the “great” dads out there a happy Father’s Day while mentioning them. Sadly, the curvy actress did not include her estranged husband, Kunle Fawole, whom she shares a son with.
