Media personality, Toke Makinwa has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s lockdown extension, saying another 14 days will bring more hunger to Nigerians.

Buhari in a televised address to Nigerians, on Monday, April 13, 2020, announced a 14-day extension to the lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun states; which he said is necessary to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

“It has become necessary to extend the current restriction of movement” that was set to expire later in the day,” the president said.

In her reaction to the development, the popular vlogger said the lockdown extension is unfair to Nigerians; many of whom have experienced hardship in the last 14 days.

Suggesting ways the government can cushion the effects of the lockdown, Makinwa said the least the Federal Government could do was to credit each Nigerian with a sum of N10,000.

Her tweet read; “Lockdown, lockdown the least you can do is credit everyone’s account, even if it’s 10k. BVN is available yet you want those who have resorted to being their own government die of hunger? 14 days more is about to bite even harder.”

With the rising cases of robbery in some parts of the country since the lockdown began; it won’t be erroneous to assert that the coronavirus lockdown is pushing poor Nigerians to the brink.

A major concern surrounding the lockdown, which kicked off late on Monday, March 30, is the inability of Nigerians to stock up on food and other essentials for survival for the provisional 14 days lockdown.

In videos that are now making their way on social media, many Nigerians could no longer hide in their feelings. They are crying out about hunger that cannot is unavoidable due to the lockdown.
