Nigerian artiste, Tiwa Savage has aired her view on the rumours surrounding Beyonce’s choice of African Artistes in “The Gift” album.
Some artistes in East Africa and other African regions, lashed out at Beyonce for featuring mostly Nigerians on her work.
Few days after the release of the album, Kenyan songstress, Victoria Kimani, stirred the anger of Kenyans and other East African fans when she called out Beyonce, saying it was totally “depressing” that Beyonce forgot “her people” in the making of an album that got its origination from them.
“The Gift” album was said to be the musical accompaniment of Queen Bey’s remake of the animated Kenyan movie, “Lion King”.
Tiwa, who featured in “Keys To The Kingdom”, a song in Beyonce’s recently released album, revealed that Bey’s choice was only “normal”, considering the genre of music she was dealing with, at the time.
According to NAN, Tiwa disclosed in a recent interview that Nigerian Artistes were more on the album because the pioneer of “Afrobeats” was a Nigerian and the originators would definitely be able to deliver it best.
She said: “The world is calling this genre ‘Afrobeats,’ and the godfather of Afrobeat is Fela Kuti — he’s Nigerian. So it only makes sense that a lot of the attention is going to be towards West Africa because that’s where the pioneer really came from.”
“But the beautiful thing about African music is; you get great sounds from each region. If you hear some of the records from South African artistes like Moonchild Sanelly and Nasty C, they are incredible,” she added.
The Afropop queen further praised the “body of work” (album), calling it authentic and commenting that “it came out really well”.
