Titilope Sonuga, a Nigerian poet, civil engineer and actress just released her new book, “This Is How We Disappear” and we already can’t wait to launch book club discussions on it.
Titilope Sonuga, also known as Titi Sonuga; winner of the 2011 Canadian Authors Association Emerging Writer Award, the 2012 Maya Angelou Poetry Contest and also publisher of a poetry collection in 2016, explores the disappearance of women, both in the literal and metaphoric sense in her new book.
This book was written when the author who shuffles between Lagos and Edmonton, Canada was living in Lagos, Nigeria at the time the Chibok girls were abducted. In her book, she moves deftly from narrative to lyrical, from melancholy to a fierce joy, from ethical negotiation to fierce resistance, from exploration of gender and power, and family intimacies to small yet poignant and often startling moments of lucidity.
