Desmond Ovbiagele confirmed an official theatrical release date his movie The Milkmaid. According to Ovbiagele, the film is now available for screening for two weeks in Ibadan since Friday 27 November 2020.
The latest development follows months of failing to reach a middle ground with the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB). According to reports, the film was initially denied censorship and classification.
Shot in the states of Taraba and Plateau, the movie explores the harsh reality of insurgency in Northern Nigeria; using the story of two Fulani sisters, Aisha and Zainab become victims of kidnapping by insurgents. It stars Anthonieta Kalunta, Maryam Booth, and Gambo Usman Kona.
The Milkmaid stars popular northern Nigerian actress, Maryam Booth, alongside Ibrahim Jammal, Anthonieta Kalunta, and Gambo Usman Kona, among others.
The director described the film as “a movie detailing the psychological ordeals of victims of insurgency in northern Nigeria.”
According to Ovbiagele, the story itself was inspired by the two Fulani milkmaids depicted at the back of the Nigerian ₦10 note. “So, it was a very natural choice to title the film The Milkmaid; because the two main characters are two Fulani milkmaids,” he said.
The Milkmaid is available for viewing at cinemas nationwide.
