Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has emerged winner of the Best International Act at the 2022 BET Awards.
Tems was nominated alongside popular acts like Fireboy, United Kingdom’s Dave and Little Simz. Also, Congo’s Fallly Ipupa, France’s Dinos and Tayc, South Africa’s Major League Djz and Brazil’s Ludmilla.
This was her second win for the night. Earlier she received the award for best collaboration for Essence with Wizkid and Justin Bieber.
After receiving the award, Tems dedicated her award to every woman striving to one day live their dreams. She said:
“Thank you so much for this, thank you so much. It’s an honour… I mean, this is my first award show that I’m winning something. I just want to use this as an opportunity to speak to every single young, old, whatever, every single woman watching this, every single girl watching this at home. Where I’m from, things like this don’t happen.” (sic)
Tems has joined the league of previous Nigerians who have won the BET Awards like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy and Ice Prince.
