Nigerian international music sensation, Tems, has offered insights into the inspiration behind her latest single, ‘Me & U.’
Tems, who achieved international acclaim in 2020, has emerged as one of Nigeria’s foremost music exports.
She has amassed numerous awards and a substantial fan base.
In an interview with BBC 1Xtra, Tems disclosed that ‘Me & U’ originated from a freestyling session she recorded in 2021, just days after shooting the music video for ‘Essence,’ her chart-topping collaboration with Wizkid.
According to Tems, the R&B single, infused with Amapiano Log drums, is a conversation with God.
She further explained that the music symbolizes God’s presence with her from her childhood and throughout her life journey as she developed into her true self.
‘Me & U’ precedes Tems’ highly anticipated debut LP.
The singer has achieved substantial international success, with several noteworthy achievements to her name.
Notably, she was the first Nigerian artist to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 after being featured on Future’s ‘Wait For U.’
Furthermore, she was the first Nigerian to receive an Oscar nomination for her contributions to Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ from the ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ soundtrack.
