Tems makes solo debut on Billboard Hot 100

Nigerian musician, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has made her solo debut on Billboard Hot 100 chart with her 2020 song, “Free Mind” off her For Broken Ears EP.

On Monday, her single “Free Mind” made it to the chart. The track peaked at No. 90, making it her fourth time appearing on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart.

This is coming a day after Tems featured on the soundtrack of the trailer for Marvel’s Black Panther sequel,  “Wakanda Forever”.

In the trailer, released on Sunday, Tems sang Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright”.

Previously, in May, Tems made her first entry at the No. 1 spot on Billboard Hot 100 charts with her feature on “Wait For U” by American rapper, Future. The track also featured Canadian artiste, Drake.

Before then, Temi’s made a debut on the Hot 100 in October, with her feature on “Essence” remix. The hit song by peaked at No. 9 on the charts.

In 2022, Tems became the first Nigerian female artiste to clinch the Best International Act at the BET Awards 2022.

Fireboy, Dave from the UK, Dinos from France, Fally Ipupa from Congo, Little Simz from the UK, Ludmilla from Brazil, Major League Djz from South Africa, and Tayc from France were also nominated for the award.
