Tekashi 6ix9ine to be Released From Prison Over Coronavirus Fears

Daniel Hernandez, American rapper better known as Tekashi 6ix9ine, an American rapper is set to be released from prison today to avoid contracting coronavirus.

The rapper who is asthmatic is currently serving a 24- month sentence at Queens Detention Facility, a private prison run by the GEO group.

Real name Daniel Hernandez, Tekashi was arrested in 2018 on the charges of racketeering, weapons and drugs. During the court appearance, he pled guilty to nine charges including conspiracy to murder and armed robbery in February 2019. After he turned snitch by testifying against his fellow members of the Nine Trey Ggangsters, he was given a two-year sentence in December last year.

He has already served 13 months of his two-year sentence. He was due to be released from an upstate New York prison in August 2020.

His attorney, Lance Lazzaro, who filed a motion for his release due to the spread of COVID-19; confirmed to Rolling Stone that the rapper could be released as soon as this afternoon.

“It’s a foregone conclusion, he’s getting released” said Dawn Florio, another attorney for Tekashi. “He could do it today, or later. We’re just waiting on the judge’s decision.”

If Tekashi is released, he will serve the remaining four months of his sentence in home confinement.
