A nurse who traveled thousands of miles to volunteer in a New York hospital during the coronavirus outbreak has been thanked personally by singer Taylor Swift.
Whitney Hilton, a nurse with McKay-Dee Hospital in Utah, posted on Twitter after the pop singer surprised her with a handwritten note and a box of merchandise, telling Hilton that she saw a picture of her attending one of Swift’s concerts.
“I wanted to send you some presents and to let you know I am so grateful for you. I can’t thank you enough for risking your life to help people and for spreading the message loudly that people need to hear about taking this seriously,” Swift wrote to Hilton.
“Also, I saw the photo of you from my show! Thank you for coming! I would love to give you a hug next time and thank you in person. With love and admiration, Taylor,” she added.
It wasn’t clear exactly how Taylor Swift found out about the young nurse. However, Hilton recently penned a blog post documenting her efforts; traveling from Utah to New York City to volunteer at overwhelmed city health facilities.
“New York has been hit HARD. The people need help, the nurses need help, the doctors need help, everyone needs help,” Hilton wrote in the post.
