YouTube, American online video-sharing platform, has launched a global campaign with top music artistes and celebs urging people to stay home amid the coronavirus crisis across the globe.
The video platform has been promoting the hashtag #StayHome for the past several weeks with a line up of singers including Timi Dakolo, Asa, Simi and Seyi Shay.
Addy Awofisayo, content partnership manager for YouTube Africa, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said the campaign will kickoff with an online music festival on March 28 and 29.
Awofisayo said the initiative followed ongoing measures to restrict large gatherings across the globe and emphasis on social distancing.
According to him, the music festival would afford fans the opportunity of watching several artists perform live on their respective YouTube channels from their homes.
Others, he said, include Reekado Banks, Skales, Bez, Jeff Akoh and Broda Shagi.
“For the past decade YouTubers have created videos such as Cook with Me, Study with Me, Read with Me, Workout with Me, Meditate with Me, and so on. So the concept of this online music festival is organically in line with what viewers know,” he said.
“The Stay Home #With Me online music festival seeks to support the well-being of our community, who are increasingly enduring this disease in isolation – a state that can affect people’s mental, emotional and spiritual health.”
Bukola Elemide, Nigerian-French vocalist better known as Asa, had earlier announced her e-concert slated to hold live on YouTube on Sunday, March 29th.
