American singer, Lizzo has been unveiled as Time’s “Entertainer of the Year”. Breaking through with hits such as Good As Hell, Truth Hurts and Juice, she cemented her position as the best and leads the Grammy Awards 2020 with eight nominations.

The singer shared her Time Magazine cover on her social media with the caption: “ARE.. YOU.. NOT.. ENTERTAINED?!?”

Speaking with Time magazine, the 31-year old singer admitted she still has struggles and insecurities.

“From March to… now! I was experiencing a little bit of unhappiness. I was not happy with the way I felt to my body.

“I didn’t feel sexy and I didn’t know when it was going to end. There were times when I would go on stage and be like ,’Y’all, I’m not going to lie. I’m not feeling myself.’ Sometimes I’d break down and cry,” she said.

Twitter criticizes Lizzo

Just earlier this week, Lizzo received some criticism on Twitter for twerking in her courtside outfit, which exposed her throng. She addressed the negativity on her social media shortly after.

“I’m not going to quiet myself, I’m not going to shrink myself because somebody thinks that I’m not sexy to them. B*tch you really think because someone on Twitter thinks I’m not cute I’m going to stop existing?” she said during an IG live. “I think it’s healthy to have a relationship with your naked body, even if no one ever sees it,” Lizzo told TIME. “But I’ve always felt the need to share it.”

On using Twitter as a tool to shut down those who “challenge” her current position. She had this to say;

“I have to bite my tongue on certain things,” the singer told TIME. “When people challenge my talent, they challenge whether I deserve to be here. They challenge my blackness. I’m like, ‘Oh! I can easily just let your *ss know right now in 132 characters why you’re f*cking wrong.”

Although, Lizzo released her debut studio album in 2013, it wasn’t until 2019 that she attained mainstream success with her third studio album, Cuz I Love You. Her Grammy-nominated hit “Truth Hurts” was first released in 2017. She told Time that she has been creating “positive music for a long-ass time” prior to her successes this year. We can boldly say year 2019 is a Lizzo year.
