Popular Nigerian singer Duncan Mighty was re-arrested on Saturday, December 14, 2019 by the Imo State Police over an allegation of fraud.
Celebrity night club owner Chibuike Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest left social media in a frenzy when he raised an alarm earlier that the singer had been kidnapped by unknown men.
However, The Police owned up to arresting the singer following a petition written by an up and coming artiste, M2.
On why the singer was arrested
Up and coming artiste, M2 claimed that the Imo State Government, led by Owelle Rochas Okorocha, through the office of the Special Adviser on Entertainment, entered into a deal with Duncan Mighty.
Duncan mighty is to manage, promote, arrange collaboration with other top artistes. The deal also included signing M2 under Young Wealth record label owned by him.
As a result, an agreement was sealed with a fee of N11m which was paid to the Duncan Mighty. However, since collecting the payment, The Rivers state singer refused to fulfill his own part of the deal.
According to the police spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu, this is not the first time the singer would be arrested. He said:
“Sequel to the petition, the artiste was arrested, and he affirmed having such agreement and collecting the fund. But said he could only refund the money if the contract was terminated. He was then released on bail on self-recognition.”
Ikeokwu added:
“consequently, a letter was received by the representative of the former governor, terminating the contract to enable him to refund the money. Since then, he absconded. And all efforts made to reach him proved abortive.”
Duncan Wene Mighty Okechukwu, popularly known as Duncan Mighty is also a music producer. He released his debut album Koliwater in 2008 and has since become a household name. His fan base trickled with the release of Fake Love featuring one of the biggest Nigerian stars, Wizkid.
