Sinach Becomes First African to Top Billboard Christian Songwriters Chart

Osinachi Joseph, Nigerian gospel singer better known as Sinach, has become the first African to top the Billboard USA Christian songwriters chart with her hit song, Way Maker.

According to the data released in May, Sinach dominated the chart for the past seven weeks.

The talented gospel singer took to her social media to share the good news with her numerous fans.

“So apparently We have been No 1 on billboard USA for Christian song writer for 7 weeks !! Look at God!! First Black person . First from Africa … So grateful to God!! Thank you,” she wrote on Twitter.

Sinach celebrates on instagram

She also took to her Instagram page to celebrate the feat. According to her, such achievement is an indication that her songs have been of great impact to people.

“It’s not a competition however, this shows that we are making impact with what God has assigned us to. When you impact people with the gift of God influencing them for Jesus that’s something to celebrate!!,” she wrote.

She went on to appreciate friends, family and others who have continued to support her, adding that without them, such feat would not be possible.

“I am so grateful to my team ( band, producers and publishers ) . My home team for cheering me! my family, my Mum and siblings, my mentor Pastor Chris and local church #Loveworld. Thank you @billboard !! It’s our win Africa/Nigeria! #AFRICAisforJesus #waymaker #sinach,” she wrote.

The original video of Way Maker is currently the third most-streamed song in the world on YouTube with 148 million views.

Since the song was released on 30 December 2015, Way Maker has been covered by a number of globally acclaimed Christian music artists such as Michael W. Smith, Leeland; Christafari; Passion Worship Bank; Maranda Curtis; and Bethel Music among others.

Globally, various versions of the song have been streamed over 250 million times life-to-date on YouTube. On Spotify, top versions of the song now account for over 54 million streams life-to-date.
