NIGERIAN singer, Seyi Shay has expressed her disappointment in the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration over the approach being deployed to cushion the effect of the ongoing lockdown.
As a result of the rising cases of coronavirus in the country, the president, some weeks ago, ordered the lockdown extension, which according to some members of the public has brought untold hardship on Nigerians.
In order to combat hunger while Nigerians stay indoors, the Federal Government had distributed food and other essentials, a move that doesn’t sit well with the singer.
Reacting to the development, Seyi Shay said the government is not doing enough to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians, particularly during the lockdown.
The Yolo singer lamented that despite the billions of naira donated to the Federal Government, Nigerians are not getting any relief as claimed.
Her words; “I heard of all the billions that private individuals donated but I can’t see the relief for our people.
“There is anarchy everywhere and people without homes have no place to ‘stay at home’. It is very sad and I think the government should be doing more than just telling everyone to stay at home. It’s very impractical and irresponsible.”
Like Seyi Shay, many Nigerians had taken to social media to ridicule the government for distributed relief materials. While some persons managed to get what they call ‘demeaning food items’ from the government, many other persons accused the government of deliberately ignoring the citizens as coronavirus continues to bite.
What’s your take on the distributed relief essentials?
