Selena Gomez has claimed she was a victim of emotional abuse during her toxic relationship with Justin Bieber who is now married to model, Hailey Baldwin.
Speaking candidly during an interview with NPR on Sunday, the 27-year-old singer said :
“I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse [during the relationship].”
When asked by the reporter if she was referring to “emotional abuse”, the Lose You To Love Me singer confirmed it.
“Yes, and I think that it’s something that — I had to find a way to understand it as an adult.”
She added: “As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this. I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.”
Selena Gomez also confessed that her No. 1 hit single Lose You To Love Me, is about her seven-year on-off relationship with Justin Bieber.
“I’m very proud of [the song],” Selena said.
“I felt I didn’t get a respectful closure and I had accepted that, but I know I needed some way to just say a few things that I wish I had said.”
She added: “It’s not a hateful song; it’s a song that is saying — I had something beautiful and I would never deny that it wasn’t that… It was very difficult and I’m happy it’s over.”
Bieber and Gomez started dating in 2010 before separating in November 2012. However, the pair reconciled a few weeks split up again in January 2013. They went on to be in an on-again-off-again relationship before their final split in 2018.
Justin Bieber’s Disrespect to Women
Justin Bieber opened up last year about mistreating women in a candid Instagram post. He wrote:
“I started doing pretty heavy drugs at 19 and abused all of my relationships,” he wrote. I became resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry. ” He added: I became distant to everyone who loved me, and I was hiding behind a shell of person that I had become.”
