New song, “Brown Skin Girl” spurred a lot of excitement in the hearts of many when it hit the airwaves on July 19; the song which praises dark-skinned women became an axiom for anybody with African heritage, as social media is buzzing with both male and female folks describing themselves as “brown skin”.

Among celebrities who expressed their opinion on the project was Kenyan-Mexican actress, Lupita Nyong’o, who got a mention in the song. She took to social media to appreciate Queen Bey’s shout-out.

In the piece, Beyonce also praised black celebrities like Kelly Rowland and Naomi Campbell.

“Pose like a trophy when Naomis walks in / She need an Oscar for that pretty dark skin / Pretty like Lupita when the cameras close in / Drip broke the levee when my Kellys roll in.”

Nyong’o is well known for her bluntness in speaking out on racial discrimination against the black race. In 2014, she spoke about “European standards of beauty” being “something that plagues the entire world”.

“Brown Skin Girl” is a song on Beyonce’s newly released album: “The Gift”, which was inspired by the remake of 1994 classic, “The Lion King”, in which Beyonce voices the character, Nala.

Queen Bey features artistes like Wizkid, Saint JHN and her 7-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy on the track; while she features other African artistes like Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade,Tekno, Shatta Wale, Mr. Eazi and Burna Boy on other songs in the album.
