Screen Actors Guild Awards: Late Chadwick Boseman Leads Nominations

Screen Actors Guild Awards: Late Chadwick Boseman Leads Nominations

Chadwick Boseman, the late American actor who passed away last year (2020), earned double nominations at Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.

The nominations boost the hopes of posthumous Oscars glory for the trailblazing Black Panther star.

The Hollywood’s acting union nominated Boseman for his lead role as an ambitious young horn player in 1920s blues drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and his supporting role as a Vietnam War soldier in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods.”

Both films also scored nominations for the best cast — the top prize at the SAG ceremony, which like much of the Tinseltown awards calendar has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Eelive.ng reported that Boseman died after a four-year battle with colon cancer in August last year. He was 43.

Born in the United States, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small roles in television before his first star turn in 2013. His striking portrayal of the stoic baseball star Jackie Robinson in 42, a 2013 American biographical sports film about the racial integration Robinson experienced, drew attention in Hollywood.

His T’Challa character was first introduced to the blockbuster Captain America: Civil War in 2016, and his Wakanda forever salute reverberated around the world after the release of Black Panther in 2018.

May his soul continue to rest in peace.
