Sabinus is synonymous with acting like a moron, in Nigerian colloquial terms, a ‘mumu’. A gullible simpleton who would approach life matters in an often-perceived intellectual manner but ends up with a shabby result.

As seen in several of his skits, Sabinus rarely emerges victorious. If he eventually succeeds in any of the episodes, he only awakens from the dream, which often seems too good at first.

The character, Oga Sabinus is portrayed by Port Harcourt-born comedian and actor, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, a graduate of Linguistics and Communications studies from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). Though he commenced his career in 2015, Sabinus who is otherwise known as Mr Funny or The Blue Chief did not find fame until 2019 and he found continuous success in the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

“How the family now?”

He has remained one of the most watched social media content creators and has carved a niche for himself through his dimwitted antics.

Sabinus

‘You are a mumu man!’, the voice of Asari Dokubo, the Delta state militant is oftentimes infused in the skits to accentuate the jokes. The sound emerges as soon as Sabinus does something childish or incomprehensive.

In his skits, Oga Sabinus is always prepared to do everything and anything to have the affection of women. In various mini-second clips, Sabinus (otherwise dubbed Investor Sabinwa) would initiate antics that rarely get him anywhere beyond being abused, humiliated or sometimes, slapped in the face.

The little things make him relatable. As seen in various episodes, including dates, Sabinus usually doesn’t have the funds to pay for the meal eaten or it ends up being an awkward moment.

He doesn’t try to force his foolishness, it is natural to him as gloves fit into hands. Instead of going on about his daily duties, Sabinus usually prefers to make a fool of himself by overtly indulging in the life of a lady who doesn’t want him.

Indeed, a mumu man.

Oga Sabinus: The Failed Strategist

Sabinus

Interestingly, ‘Sabinus’ is used to refer to someone who claim they know too much.  A person who wants to be in charge all the time, could also be seen as a snide remark.

In his skits, Sabinus’ strategies have never worked, atleast for him. Somehow, the self-acclaimed ‘investor’ has never reaped the dividends of his investment. He is a failed strategist and he simply just doesn’t know when to quit.

Investor’s wornout pair of shoes

In this generation, you cant claim to be too intelligent, especially if you are in the Nigerian entertainment industry. You just need to find your niche and go ballistic with it. Like Sabinus, he carved the perception of being a ‘idiot’, and he is loved for it. He is reminiscent of old Nollywood thespians such as the legendary thespians such as Sam Loco, Mr Ibu and Nkem Owoh who is otherwise known as Osuofia.

He is simply one of the most entertaining content creators in modern times and the reason is apparent.
