Rita Edochie Cancels Birthday Celebration Over Coronavirus

Rita Edochie, veteran Nigerian actress, says she will not celebrate her birthday for this year as a result of the agony caused in various homes by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead of a happy celebration, the actress disclosed that she would rather go on her knees and pray for divine intervention so God can “heal our land.”

Her decision comes about the same time when the federal and state governments introduced several measures; including prohibition of social gathering and lockdown to prevent spread of the killer virus; as hundreds of people have contracted infections from the disease.

“My great people in the world, today April 16 is my birthday. But I will not celebrate it because it is only when you are happy you remember to celebrate,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I will be on my knees praying to God to Almighty for forgiveness. I beg him to heal our land. There is so much agony in every home. Forgive us Lord in every way we have sinned against you please oh, Lord.”

The actress is married to Tony Edochie, younger brother of Pete Edochie, veteran Nollywood actor. The pair got married in December 1990, shortly after she completed her secondary school.

The couple have four children together- Nkiru, Valentine, Amanda and Rondy.
