Rihanna has made history with her Vogue Italia cover! She is one of only two artistes (the first being Madonna) to cover the big 4 Vogues, American Vogue, British Vogue, Vogue Paris, and Vogue Italia.
Madonna first graced the cover of Vogue in May 1989. Her last Vogue cover was in 2004 when she appeared on Vogue Paris.
The Fenty mogul is gracing the Vogue Italia cover which she styled and photographed herself; the “do it yourself” issue, she called it. The cover image is of her in a sheer Valentino gown and high heels. In another snap, the singer is squatting down while wearing a sheer black top, tights and heels. Rihanna rocks a choppy green wolf cut in all the photos. Vogue called this issue the “Rihanna by Rihanna” issue.

On the two covers, she wears opulent clothes by designers like Versace and Maison Valentino. Rihanna wears makeup by Pierpaolo Piccioli using products from her Fenty Beauty brand.
The magazine explained the issue, which came out on Friday, June 4. They wrote, “On set, Rihanna played simultaneously the artist and the muse, the observer and the observed, the director and the character; experimenting on the fine line that exists between the two sides of an artist.”
“In recent years, we have tried to use our cover in many different ways: with photography or illustrations, or with no images at all,” added the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Emanuele Farneti.
Farneti continued, “But we’ve never invited the featured person to do everything by themselves; to pose, take the photographs and choose the clothes to wear. If there was a right occasion for this new experiment, it could only have been the DIY issue. Neither could there have been a better protagonist than Rihanna – who has appeared on so many covers, but never like this time in the version in which she, and only she, has chosen to portray herself, without filters or any mediation.”
