Holy Spirit
Dropped off Spirit of Love, a 1991 album, Fashek infused spirituality into the usual conscience music. This was one of the songs that gave him international fame and got him signed to Island Records’ Mango imprint, a label dedicated to the marketing of reggae genre internationally.
Majek Fashek Ina New York
This is another song released off the Spirit of Love album. In the song, Fashek described his first impression of the United States, where he visited after he was signed to Interscope Records.
Free Mandela
The reggae icon used this song to campaign for the freedom of South African hero, Nelson Mandela. The song indicted not just the South African government that imprisoned Mandela because of his fight against the racist apartheid system of governance, but also the-then UK prime minister Margret Thatcher and United States President George Bush.
Name a song you think should not be missing from the list.
