Known for his outstanding singing and composing skills, the late musician was popular in Nigeria in the 80s and 90s for hits such as –Send Down the Rain, which earned him the moniker, the Rainmaker.

Below are some of the songs the reggae star will ever be remembered for:

I Come from the Ghetto

Fashek, in this song he composed and released in 1997, shares the story of his humble beginning, where he came from and how tough growing up was for him.

Religion Na Politics

Released in 2012, the reggae star blended talking drums and slick guitar riffs on this song. Inspired by the religious conflicts – Christians vs. Muslims – going on in Nigeria, the song highlighted the hypocrisy in organised religion.

Holy Spirit

Dropped off Spirit of Love, a 1991 album, Fashek infused spirituality into the usual conscience music. This was one of the songs that gave him international fame and got him signed to Island RecordsMango imprint, a label dedicated to the marketing of reggae genre internationally.

Majek Fashek Ina New York

This is another song released off the Spirit of Love album. In the song, Fashek described his first impression of the United States, where he visited after he was signed to Interscope Records.

Free Mandela

The reggae icon used this song to campaign for the freedom of South African hero, Nelson Mandela. The song indicted not just the South African government that imprisoned Mandela because of his fight against the racist apartheid system of governance, but also the-then UK prime minister Margret Thatcher and United States President George Bush.

Name a song you think should not be missing from the list.
