Nigerian superstar Rema‘s hit single ‘Calm Down’ has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first African song to spend 52 weeks (an entire year) on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song, featuring Selena Gomez, is currently at No. 11 on the chart as of the week of September 9, 2023, after peaking at No. 3.

This achievement cements ‘Calm Down’ as the highest-charting Nigerian song and the second highest-charting African song, following Hugh Masekala’s 1968 single ‘Grazing in the Grass,’ which reached No. 1.

Since its release in February 2022, the song has been a massive success, boasting numerous records.

This include being the most streamed Afrobeats song on Spotify, the most viewed music video by a Nigerian artist on YouTube, and the biggest African song globally.

It was also nominated for Song of the Year and Collaboration of the Year at the 2023 VMAs.
