Regina King talks Hollywood, movies and career as she covers Vanity Fair’s Award Extra Edition
48-year-old actress, Regina King is a refreshing sight on the cover of Vanity Fair’s Awards Extra issue. On the inside, she has a lot to say about her recent wins, her journey in Hollywood and many more.

On her feelings about winning an Emmy vs Oscar, she said: “It is very cool to be 47 and [have] this shit be new. Having this experience now, I see a whole ‘nother regard for film.”
On what influences her acting, she said that she her trained herself by watching Marla Gibbs. She said: “It was like college; Marla was the first boss lady I got to see up close and personal.”
King left TV-only productions with three Emmys to her name: one for playing Aliyah Shaheed in “American Crime”, one for playing Terri LaCroix in the second season of the same show and another for portraying the role of a mother Latrice in Netflix’s “Seven Seconds”.
She also produces and directs episodes in series like “Being Mary Jane”, “Scandal”, “Insecure” and “This Is Us”.
On working with Regina, Kerry Washington said: “If you came to this planet from Jupiter and you watched [Regina] on set, you would not know that her path to directing was through acting. She speaks so many of the languages of filmmaking as beautifully as the acting part.”
